Nursing schools differ in how they run clinicals, and CUW's details carry weight. Its FNP and AGPCNP students need 250 hours in each of three primary care clinicals. Its PMHNP programs share three practicums, split 125, 200 and 175 hours in the certificate plan. Its Post-BSN DNP adds 258 leadership hours with an agency mentor. Approval runs through graduate faculty, and a new site needs a clinical contract before any patient care.

How we treat CUW's rules
We build around CUW's process and respect it. The catalog puts it plainly: students identify and secure clinical preceptors, graduate faculty approve them for appropriateness, and the Graduate Clinical Coordinator is available to assist. We take on the finding and the preparation, and the approval decision stays with CUW's faculty every time.
We are careful with information, too. CUW's current pages leave out the proposal form, the deadlines and the preceptor credentials, so we draw on its archived handbooks and forms, always with their dates, and point you to your course faculty or the Graduate Clinical Coordinator for the rule in force today. Where CUW's own sources disagree, we show both versions and tell you who can settle it.
Who we work with
Most of the students we serve are in CUW's online graduate programs: the MSN FNP, AGPCNP and PMHNP, the FNP dual degrees, the Post-BSN to DNP, the PMHNP and Post-MSN DNPs, and the CAGE certificates. They are working nurses in Wisconsin and across the states on CUW's disclosure lists, fitting clinical hours around shifts and family life.
We also answer RN to BSN students, whose clinical hours happen at their own workplace, and clinicians thinking about teaching a CUW student; the precept a CUW student page is written for them. Students in the Direct Entry MSN and the Traditional BSN have their clinicals arranged by CUW, and we point them to the School of Nursing.

Everything we tell you about CUW comes from CUW's own material: the 2026-27 academic catalog, the cuw.edu program pages, CUW's progression plans, its Distance Education Disclosure, and the older handbooks and forms from CUW's form repository. For Wisconsin rules we go to the Board of Nursing and DSPS, and for health systems to each system's own student pages.
At the foot of every guide you will find its CUW sources and an updated date. When CUW updates a catalog or a program page, we update the pages that depend on it. If something you read here no longer matches what your faculty tell you, their word wins for your semester, and we would like to hear about it so the page can be corrected.

Do you work with CUW students in every state?
We search in each state where CUW's disclosure lists your program as meeting requirements: 26 for the MSN primary care NP, 25 for each DNP and 24 for the CAGE certificates. The PMHNP MSN and PMHNP DNP have no row yet, so we ask you to confirm your state with the Graduate Clinical Coordinator before outreach starts.
