Connecticut and CUW's online nurse practitioner programs
Connecticut appears under "Does Not Meet Requirements" in all five of Concordia University Wisconsin's graduate NP tables and in its RN to BSN table too, so none of CUW's online programs for working nurses is listed as satisfying Connecticut's requirements. This guide covers that answer, Connecticut's clinical rules and the state's 2025 compact entry.

The short answer in CUW's table
The word to hold on to is licensure. For a Connecticut nurse, CUW's FNP, AGPCNP, DNP and certificate programs are not presented as meeting the state's requirements, and the RN to BSN row agrees. Only the campus BSN tables list Connecticut as meeting, and those serve students who are not yet nurses. The two PMHNP programs have no row, so ask CUW admissions instead of assuming. How Connecticut's regulations treat precepted clinicals
The Department of Public Health is home to Connecticut's nursing regulator, formally the Board of Examiners for Nursing. Under the state's education rules, a school based elsewhere gets what the regulations call deemed approval if its own state's board has signed off, its curriculum satisfies Connecticut's RN requirements, and licensure standards back home match or top Connecticut's. The rules describe no extra application. They were drafted for programs preparing nurses for a first license, and APRN or other post-licensure study gets no direct mention.
Where the rules do reach, they are precise. One preceptor may carry up to two students, one faculty member may oversee up to 16 who are being precepted, each clinical agency works under a written contract, and grading stays with faculty. Someone guiding advanced-level students in an RN program brings a bachelor's in nursing, two years or more of experience in that specialty or role, and a current RN license from Connecticut or from whichever state hosts the precepting. CUW's own bar is on who can precept a CUW student.
Practice rules and Connecticut's big systems
AANP's rating for Connecticut is full practice, reached in stages: a new NP first logs three years and 2,000 hours alongside a collaborating physician. The biggest employers cluster in four metros, Hartford, New Haven, Bridgeport-Stamford-Danbury and Waterbury-Shelton, where NP students start looking: UConn Health, Hartford HealthCare and Yale New Haven Health, plus Trinity Health Of New England and Northwell Health, a New York system whose Connecticut presence came through the former Nuvance hospitals such as Danbury Hospital. Student terms differ from one system to the next, and our sources record no Connecticut preceptor incentive.
Connecticut joined the compact in October 2025
Connecticut is one of the compact's newest members, with participation starting October 1, 2025. Under the state health department's guidance, RN students there can now work under a Connecticut license or under the multistate credential their compact home state issued; a Wisconsin multistate license qualifies. As for the APRN Compact, Connecticut has passed no law to join it.

A Does Not Meet neighborhood, and where we come in
A short move rarely changes the answer here. Every state touching Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island, sits under Does Not Meet in CUW's graduate tables; New Hampshire and Maine are the nearest states that meet in all five. Connecticut was absent from CUW's archived 2022 and 2024 lists of states closed to new MSN students, and the disclosure showed it as meeting for the MSN and both DNPs until the August 2024 version.

Questions CUW students ask
Does Connecticut require CUW to register before a student trains there?
Connecticut's education rules grant deemed approval to a school whose own state board has approved it and whose standards line up, and they describe no separate application. They target programs leading to a first license, leaving the NP question open. With CUW's table listing Connecticut as not meeting, raise any Connecticut site with the Graduate Clinical Coordinator first.
Can I use my Wisconsin multistate RN license in Connecticut now?
For RN practice, yes, since October 1, 2025. Connecticut's health department accepts a multistate license issued by an RN student's compact home state, and Wisconsin is a compact state. That answers the RN question only and leaves CUW's NP answer for Connecticut unchanged.
Is CUW's RN to BSN an option for Connecticut nurses?
Not according to CUW's table. The RN to BSN Online Nursing Program lists Connecticut under Does Not Meet, matching the graduate tables. California, Delaware and Hawaii show the opposite split, with the RN to BSN meeting while the NP programs do not, so Connecticut's all-no row is worth confirming with CUW admissions.
How long before a Connecticut NP can practice without a collaborating physician?
AANP's summary puts the threshold at three years and 2,000 hours of practice alongside a collaborating physician. Since CUW's disclosure says its NP programs do not meet Connecticut's requirements, check with the Board of Examiners for Nursing before building a Connecticut career plan around a CUW degree.
