Florida and CUW's online NP programs: listed in every graduate table
Every Concordia University Wisconsin graduate NP table lists Florida under "Meets Requirements," and Florida's board approves only programs that prepare new nurses, so research turned up no state filing standing between an online CUW student and a Florida clinical. What shapes the search instead is protocol-based NP practice, four very large metros, and two northern neighbors that CUW's table treats very differently.

Florida's row in CUW's disclosure

The contrast sits just north. Georgia and Alabama are "Does Not Meet" states for every CUW graduate NP program, so a student in Jacksonville or the Panhandle should keep clinicals on the Florida side of the line; see Georgia. How Florida's Board of Nursing treats schools from elsewhere
Section 464.019 of the Florida Statutes is written for schools that want to teach new nurses in Florida, and the Florida Board of Nursing presents its approval work the same way. No requirement turned up, in a search of Florida law, for an out-of-state online graduate or RN to BSN program to apply to, register with or notify the board before its students arrive.
So the gate sits at the practice. Every Florida practice must have a clinical contract with CUW before you begin, and a health-system clinic may layer its own onboarding on top. The wider checklist for training beyond Wisconsin is on clinicals outside Wisconsin.
Protocol practice and Florida's search map
AANP files Florida under restricted practice. Some Florida NPs must work under a physician protocol throughout their careers, with exemptions available. When you approach a preceptor, ask how the practice is organized, since a protocol physician may want a voice in hosting a student.
Most searches begin in one of four metros: greater Miami with Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, the Tampa area with St. Petersburg and Clearwater, Orlando with Kissimmee and Sanford, or Jacksonville. HCA Florida Healthcare, Baptist Health South Florida, Florida-based AdventHealth, UF Health and BayCare Health System are among the large systems, and each decides student requests on its own terms.
Florida also pays some clinics to train students, through TEACH, a program the state's health care administration agency runs when the legislature funds it. FQHCs, rural health clinics, community mental health centers and similar facilities receive an hourly reimbursement for primary care APRN students, but only when the student comes from an accredited Florida-based program and the preceptor holds a Florida license. A CUW student's hours therefore bring the site nothing from TEACH, and the law sets its own repeal for July 1, 2034.
Licensing, and the one trip north
Florida's multistate RN licenses have been valid in Wisconsin, and Wisconsin's in Florida, since both states implemented the compact on January 19, 2018. Florida has not adopted the APRN Compact. Questions CUW students ask
Can I finish CUW's online FNP while living in Florida?
CUW's disclosure supports it: Florida carries a "Meets" in the primary care MSN table, the one CUW uses for its FNP and AGPCNP master's, and in every doctoral and certificate table. The search for Florida preceptors and sites is yours under CUW's model, and each one still goes to CUW's graduate faculty for approval.
Does Florida make CUW register before I start clinicals?
Florida's approval law concerns schools running prelicensure programs in the state, and nothing located in Florida law makes a graduate program from elsewhere register or check in before sending students. Your site still needs a clinical contract with CUW, and the Graduate Clinical Coordinator can confirm anything more for your term.
I live near the Georgia line. Can my clinical be in Georgia?
CUW lists Georgia under "Does Not Meet" for every graduate NP program, while Florida meets for all of them. Keep your site in Florida, and if a Georgia practice looks like the only option, clear it with the Graduate Clinical Coordinator first.
Will a Florida clinic get TEACH funds for precepting a CUW student?
It will not. The program reimburses hours only for students from accredited Florida-based schools who train under Florida-licensed preceptors, so a CUW student's hours fall outside it. Those clinics can still be strong primary care sites for you; the reimbursement simply does not attach to your hours.
