Kansas lands on the meets side of all five graduate NP tables in the disclosure Concordia University Wisconsin currently posts. Nothing has to be filed with the Board before you enroll, because the Kansas State Board of Nursing (KSBN) weighs a program from another state only later, once its graduate seeks Kansas licensure. What Kansas does insist on shows up at the clinic door: a preceptor licensed by Kansas as an APRN for the role you are learning.

How KSBN treats an out-of-state APRN program
KSBN's guidance for programs based in other states is unusually direct. Enrolling from Kansas in an online APRN program run elsewhere needs no sign-off from the Board; the scrutiny comes at the end, once you as a new graduate ask Kansas for APRN licensure.
During clinicals, K.S.A. 65-1124 treats you as someone studying advanced practice nursing, working on an RN license Kansas accepts, whether Kansas issued it alone or it is multistate. Multistate licenses have counted in Kansas since July 1, 2019; the APRN Compact, by contrast, has no Kansas enactment.
Your preceptor and the Kansas APRN license
KSBN's reading of K.A.R. 60-17-104 for programs from other states shapes the search more than anything else. Three things are expected of the preceptor: an orientation to your program, a signed agreement, and an APRN license from Kansas matching the role you are preparing for. Clinical supervision of an APRN student, KSBN adds, takes that Kansas credential. For a CUW NP student, read it as a Kansas-licensed nurse practitioner.
That is narrower than CUW's archived lists, which accepted physicians, PAs and certified nurse-midwives alongside NPs in the 2014-15 handbook. Before a physician's name goes on your proposal for a Kansas site, ask the Graduate Clinical Coordinator how CUW applies the Kansas rule. Of the Kansas City metro's population, roughly 938,000 live in Kansas; beyond it, the main metro areas are Wichita, the largest, then Topeka and Manhattan. Names you will meet include Stormont Vail Health and The University of Kansas Health System, plus Ascension Via Christi and, in Wichita, the HCA-owned Wesley Healthcare. Each keeps its own student rules, and CUW lists no tie to any of them.

Two rows merit a question before you enroll: the PMHNP programs' 500 hours against Kansas's 750 for newer students, and the 41-credit MSN against a 45-credit floor. CUW's disclosure still lists Kansas as meeting, and how KSBN counts earlier graduate work is KSBN's call, so ask the Graduate Clinical Coordinator or the Board how your program reads. Questions CUW students ask
Does Kansas require CUW to be approved before I enroll?
No sign-off is needed at enrollment. According to KSBN, a Kansas resident can start an online APRN program based in another state without the Board's formal approval. The program is reviewed later, inside your own Kansas APRN application, where hours, credits, three core courses and accreditation all get checked.
Can a physician precept me at a Kansas clinic?
KSBN's guidance points to a Kansas-licensed APRN in your own role as the right teacher at a Kansas site, because supervising APRN students clinically requires that credential. CUW's archived handbooks allowed physicians and PAs, so ask the Graduate Clinical Coordinator how CUW handles a Kansas site before you propose a physician.
Will CUW faculty visit my Kansas site?
Site visits were part of CUW's model in 2022, when its FAQ called for at least one each semester; your course faculty can say how they work now. Kansas requires no such visits, and KSBN says faculty who do come attend as visitors or lay persons, observing rather than giving care.
Could a Kansas City student use a preceptor across the Missouri line?
Missouri is a meets state in CUW's table and, like Kansas, a compact member, so one multistate license covers both halves of the metro. Missouri NPs keep a physician collaboration in place for their whole careers, which shapes who can take a student. Our Missouri guide covers that side.
