Oklahoma's history with CUW runs deeper than the table. Archived MSN pages from 2022 and 2024 named it among states CUW was not accepting new students from, and so did the 2022 Post-MSN DNP page, yet from 2023 into mid-2024 the disclosure itself rated Oklahoma as meeting for the master's and both doctorates, until the August 2024 version moved it. What OAC 485:10-5-12(c) asks of an out-of-state APRN student
An RN enrolled in an APRN program housed in another state can train at an Oklahoma site with no separate Board permission, provided three things hold. The student's RN license is unencumbered and good for Oklahoma practice. The person overseeing the clinical piece for the school carries a clean Oklahoma license pitched at the taught level or higher. And the program clears the Oklahoma Board of Nursing's APRN education standards.
That third condition sits awkwardly beside CUW's own Does Not Meet entry, and the second turns on which CUW faculty member supervises you. Put both to the Graduate Clinical Coordinator before approaching an Oklahoma preceptor. CUW's catalog rule for any site beyond Wisconsin is on clinicals outside Wisconsin.
Precepting in a restricted-practice state
In AANP's three-tier scheme Oklahoma lands in the restricted group. Oklahoma NPs need a written statement of physician supervision behind their prescriptive authority until they have logged 6,240 hours, and Schedule II drugs stay outside their prescribing entirely.
Oklahoma also rewards precepting through income tax. Starting with tax year 2026 and running through 2035, a nonrefundable credit (HB 3351, passed in 2024, and managed by the state's Health Care Workforce Training Commission) goes to primary care MDs, DOs, PAs and APRNs holding Oklahoma licenses who teach APRN, PA or medical learners. The unit is a 160-hour rotation, the yearly cap ten. Whether a CUW student's rotation counts is for the Commission to say.
Population clusters around the Oklahoma City and Tulsa metros, with Lawton and Enid far behind. Large employers include INTEGRIS Health, the academic OU Health, SSM Health St. Anthony's Oklahoma hospitals, Hillcrest HealthCare System, and also Saint Francis Health System; each sets its own student rules.
Licenses: the compact covers RNs, not NPs
Oklahoma's multistate RN licenses date from January 19, 2018, the day the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact took effect for Wisconsin as well. So an Oklahoma resident's multistate license reaches Wisconsin, and the reverse holds. Whether a multistate privilege satisfies the license condition in Oklahoma's clinical rule is a point for the Oklahoma Board of Nursing.
The APRN Compact is another matter: Oklahoma is not among its enacting states, and it is not running anywhere yet, so NP licensure stays state by state. CUW's own license expectations are on your RN license for CUW clinicals.

Questions CUW students ask
Can I start CUW's online FNP while living in Oklahoma?
CUW posts no enrollment bar by state today. The current disclosure lists the MSN, home of the FNP track, as not meeting Oklahoma's requirements, and students who enroll after receiving such a disclosure sign an acknowledgment. Get CUW's view of your plans in writing.
Does Oklahoma's preceptor tax credit reach someone teaching a CUW student?
Maybe. Eligibility is written around the preceptor (Oklahoma-licensed, practicing primary care in Oklahoma), and claims are granted in order of arrival while money remains. Nothing in the summary addresses learners from a school outside the state, so your preceptor should raise it with the Commission before filing.
Is there an Oklahoma answer for CUW's PMHNP programs?
Only for the certificate: the CAGE (PMH NP) table lists Oklahoma as not meeting. The MSN PMHNP and PMHNP DNP have no table, so CUW has published no Oklahoma entry for them. The catalog files the MSN PMHNP on the primary care MSN's page, so ask CUW in writing which table governs yours.
I live in Kansas near the Oklahoma line. Could my CUW clinicals happen in Oklahoma?
Kansas meets in every CUW NP table, but an Oklahoma site triggers Oklahoma's three conditions, including one about the program meeting the Board's APRN education standards. With CUW's table listing Oklahoma as not meeting, check with the Graduate Clinical Coordinator first; a Kansas site is the simpler route.
