CUW's NP programs from Texas: three tables meet, two certificates do not
Concordia University Wisconsin's disclosure puts Texas under "Meets Requirements" for the MSN primary care NP and for both DNP programs, and under "Does Not Meet" for both CAGE certificates. A Texas RN starting the FNP or AGPCNP master's is in a program CUW lists for the state; an NP eyeing a post-graduate certificate should get CUW's written answer before applying.

The certificate rows are the puzzle. CUW's FNP and AGPCNP certificate runs the same clinical courses as the master's (NURS 7151-NURS 7153 for FNP, NURS 7265-NURS 7267 for AGPCNP), yet Texas gets opposite answers in the two tables and CUW prints no footnote. The gap predates today's table: an archived 2022 copy of the certificate page already named Texas among its excluded states.
What the Texas Board of Nursing asks of an online graduate program
Texas does ask schools based elsewhere to apply before their students train there, but the rule aims at programs that lead to an initial license: vocational, diploma, associate and bachelor's programs, plus entry-level master's. The board's out-of-state guidance, numbered 3.1.3 and updated in May 2026, leaves post-licensure and graduate APRN programs off that track.
For APRN education the board has Chapter 219. It lets programs use licensed APRNs as preceptors, or other licensed health professionals with the skill to teach and supervise students, each placement backed by a signed agreement between school, preceptor and agency. Chapter 219 governs programs that ask Texas for approval, not nationally accredited programs, so read it as Texas custom. Where Texas NP students look, in a restricted-practice state
AANP's map shades Texas as restricted. NPs there practice through a physician's delegation and supervision, work from written physician protocols for their whole working lives, and face setting limits on Schedule II prescriptions. So a physician stands behind every Texas NP you approach, worth remembering when a practice weighs hosting you.
Most searches center on the four largest metros. In Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington the large networks belong to Baylor Scott & White Health, to Texas Health Resources and to UT Southwestern Medical Center; Houston Methodist anchors greater Houston; University Health serves San Antonio; Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos sits between. Each runs its own student intake; read them as examples of where NP students look.
Texas incentives stop short of your preceptor: the preceptor tuition exemption is reserved for RNs who precept undergraduates in public programs, and the Nursing Shortage Reduction Program pays institutions.
Your license for a Texas clinical
Texas entered the compact on the same date as Wisconsin, January 19, 2018, so a Wisconsin multistate license covers RN practice in Texas and a Texas one covers Wisconsin. Texas has not adopted the APRN Compact.
The Texas board treats its approval of an out-of-state program as the thing that exempts that program's students from the Nursing Practice Act. Graduate programs sit outside that approval, so your own Texas or multistate RN license is what you practice under as a student, and CUW asks you to keep it unencumbered. Anything extra CUW wants for a Texas site comes from the Graduate Clinical Coordinator; the general rule is under your RN license for clinicals.

Can I complete CUW's online FNP while living in Texas?
Yes, as far as CUW's disclosure goes. Texas is a "Meets" state in the MSN primary care NP table, the one that holds the FNP and AGPCNP tracks, and in both DNP tables. Recruiting Texas preceptors and sites stays your job; CUW's graduate faculty review every one, and patient care waits for a signed contract with the practice.
Why does CUW list Texas as not meeting requirements for its certificates?
CUW gives no reason. Both CAGE tables, FNP/AGPCNP and PMHNP, mark Texas "Does Not Meet," while the MSN and DNP tables mark it "Meets," and a 2022 copy of the certificate page already left Texas out. If you are a Texas NP drawn to a certificate, get admissions' current position in writing before you apply.
Must CUW get the Texas board's approval before my clinical starts?
The Texas approval step for out-of-state schools covers first-license programs, and an online NP program for working RNs falls outside it. The site's paperwork remains: a CUW contract with the practice, plus any intake process a large Texas system runs.
Will CUW accept a Texas physician assistant as my preceptor?
Possibly. CUW's 2014-15 NP handbook allowed physician assistants alongside NPs, midwives and physicians, on the condition that 50 or more program hours be spent alongside an NP, and Texas's APRN standards also look beyond APRNs to other licensed professionals. Today's rules come from CUW's graduate faculty, so confirm before you commit to a PA.
