CUW NP clinicals for Michigan students
Concordia University Wisconsin's disclosure marks Michigan "meets" for every nurse practitioner program in its tables, and Michigan is home to CUW's second campus in Ann Arbor. For an online NP student, though, Michigan's own rules shape the plan more than the campus does: a Wisconsin compact license carries no weight there, NP prescribing of controlled drugs rests on physician delegation, and a search of Board rules turns up nothing on schools from other states.

Michigan in CUW's disclosure tables
The five graduate tables on CUW's Distance Education Disclosures each list Michigan under "Meets Requirements," and the RN to BSN table agrees. The PMHNP degrees have no table, so their Michigan answer is simply missing.

Ann Arbor: CUW's second campus
The 2026-27 catalog describes one university, Concordia University, Inc., with two residential campuses: Concordia University Wisconsin in Mequon and Concordia University Ann Arbor (CUAA) on Plymouth Road in Ann Arbor. In nursing, CUW's pages tie Ann Arbor to the pre-licensure Direct Entry MSN, whose students must be able to reach labs and clinicals at either campus; that program has no disclosure row (Direct Entry MSN guide).
The online NP programs are another matter. CUW names only Mequon for their in-person sessions, and no NP page mentions Ann Arbor. A Michigan address also leaves the approval path unchanged: the preceptor and site are still yours to secure, and graduate faculty rule on them, with help available from the Graduate Clinical Coordinator.
Michigan's rules for nurse practitioners
Michigan's Board of Nursing works within LARA, the state licensing department. AANP files Michigan under restricted practice, citing the physician delegation an NP needs to prescribe controlled substances. Wisconsin's Board, profiling its neighbors, drew the same line: Michigan APRNs order non-scheduled drugs on their own authority, while Schedule 2-5 prescriptions are delegated acts of a physician.
In Michigan, NP status is a specialty certification layered on a Michigan RN license and a national credential from a Board-recognized certifier. In a Michigan preceptor's paperwork, that specialty certification proves NP standing and sits beside the board certification CUW has asked for (preceptor standards).
A state health department pilot with MSU's College of Nursing once rewarded preceptors of MSU's own FNP and PMHNP students; it has ended, served MSU alone, and no enacted preceptor tax credit appears in state sources.
Licensing and outside programs in Michigan
Michigan remains a non-compact state. NCSBN's map notes a pending bill, HB 4246, but for now a Wisconsin multistate license opens no Michigan privilege, and the APRN Compact is not law there. A new Michigan RN license involves a criminal background check and two required trainings, so leave lead time if you need one.
On schools from other states, Michigan's published Board rules and its nursing education page address programs located in Michigan, and no rule asking outside programs for approval or advance notice before clinicals turned up. Silence is not a green light: CUW's catalog still makes Michigan eligibility your check, so bring it to the Graduate Clinical Coordinator and read clinicals outside Wisconsin.
Where Michigan NP students look
Detroit-Warren-Dearborn is by far the biggest metro, near 4.39 million people; roughly 1.18 million live in the Grand Rapids-Wyoming-Kentwood area, and Lansing-East Lansing and Flint follow. Henry Ford Health and Corewell Health are two of the large systems, joined by Trinity Health Michigan, McLaren Health Care and Michigan Medicine, the University of Michigan Health system. Each keeps its own student rules and appears here only as an example.
FNP and AGPCNP students need primary care as the main site, which points to family and internal medicine offices rather than hospital units (primary care sites).

Can I do CUW's on-campus sessions in Ann Arbor instead of Mequon?
CUW's pages point online NP students to Mequon for in-person sessions such as the Advanced Health Assessment intensive, and no NP page mentions Ann Arbor, whose nursing role is the Direct Entry MSN's labs and clinicals. If travel is hard, ask your faculty or the Graduate Clinical Coordinator before you register.
Will a Wisconsin nursing license cover my Michigan clinicals?
Not through the compact. Michigan is not a compact member, and HB 4246 is still pending, so a Wisconsin multistate license grants nothing there. CUW's pages also stop short of saying whether you need a license in the clinical state. If you are not already licensed in Michigan, settle it with the Graduate Clinical Coordinator before picking a Michigan site.
Is Michigan a restricted practice state for NPs?
Yes, in AANP's classification. Michigan NPs prescribe non-scheduled drugs on their own authority, but prescribing Schedule 2 through 5 drugs is a delegated act of a physician. That shapes how a preceptor's practice handles prescriptions; whether a given preceptor and site suit your course is a decision for CUW's graduate faculty.
Does Michigan make CUW register before I train there?
Michigan's published Board rules and education guidance show no step, approval or advance notice, asked of out-of-state schools; the program rules cover schools located in Michigan. CUW's catalog still puts the eligibility check on you, so confirm with the Graduate Clinical Coordinator before a Michigan practice signs.
